Honours and Awards

Samer Bagaeen was awarded in 2012 the Royal Town Planning Institute Planning Leaders Award for ‘demonstrating outstanding leadership in the field of planning’ and was a Finalist in the Royal Town Planning Institute 2011 Planning Awards for Excellence in Teaching and Learning.

The Planning Leaders Awards celebrate the success of planners who are leading the profession in creating great places to live and work, and are open to RTPI members who can demonstrate outstanding leadership in planning. There is just one award for each region. Richard Summers, RTPI Immediate Past President presented the award to Dr. Bagaeen on 1 November 2012 at a formal ceremony in London saying: “RTPI-accredited Planning Schools are internationally recognised for their excellence and Dr Bagaeen has been instrumental in setting up and securing accreditation for the University of Brighton’s Planning School. He has also made a significant contribution to research for town and country planning. The judging panel thought Dr Bagaeen's entry was excellent and was very impressed by his leadership achievements.”
